Is re-invention of an individual, or of and entire country, possible or even desirable? This is the central question of Pera Palas, play about Turkey, and her emergence as a modern, secular state in the 20th century. At the Pera Palas Hotel in Istanbul, twenty-six characters depict three separate but interconnected stories that crisscross through time from 1918 to the present. Weaving a tapestry of East and West, Islam and Christianity, playwright Ünel examines the seeds of rebellion and the consequences of choice on a society and, most importantly, on the hearts of its people.
Cast of ten: five actors and five actresses.
