Gassner Award 2018

Ali MacLean, is an actor and writer in Los Angeles and a graduate of the Miami University actor’s program and the LaJolla Playhouse acting conservatory. Her play, Tales Of A Bleaknik, was work shopped at the Melrose Theater, through the HBO Workspace. Ali has also work shopped several pieces at the Hudson Theatre (via Comedy Central Stages), the Lyric Hyperion, Largo at the Coronet Theatre, and the Naked Angels Reading series.  Ali has performed her work at several different festivals and theaters, including Rogue Machine Theatre, San Francisco Sketch Fest and the Funny Women Festival.  Her play, She’s Not There, was part of the Ensemble Studio Theatre’s Winterfest program.

 

Ali has written for several magazines, and her work is published in The American Dream (Nation Books, 2008). Ali is also an award winning filmmaker, and her films have screened at Atlanta, Toronto, Gen Art, and Palm Springs to name a few. Her screenplays have been a Chesterfield Writer’s Project semi-finalist, a Scriptapalooza semi finalist, and IFP Filmmakers Program finalist. Ali is the 2018 Writer For Writer Fellowship recipient.

 

Ali has written for various networks, including MTV, VH-1, and FOX. She created the MTV pilot TOWN MAUL and wrote for MTV2’s updated version of CELEBRITY DEATHMATCH, as well as for KATHY GRIFFIN. Ali worked on comedies such as THE JIMMY KIMMEL SHOW, HBO’s MR. SHOW with Bob Odenkirk and David Cross, and THE GREEN ROOM with PAUL PROVENZA. Ali created the web series LAW OF THE LAND, which she wrote for the DAVID CROSS owned FKR TV. She is currently a writer for the television series, HOLLYWOOD DARLINGS, on the Pop Network.
